With fall right around the corner, you may be eager to do some last-minute organizing and decluttering. And, here’s yet another reason to sort through your stuff: It’s the best way to locate items to sell for extra cash.
Whether you need money for the back-to-school season, want to jumpstart your holiday savings, or save for a vacation, selling items can be an easy way to generate extra cash.
Plus, you don’t have to be an expert at sales to make money this way. In fact, you can list items and sell them right from your phone or device. And just think: This will help you make extra money when you’re in-between pay days.
Here are some of the best apps for selling your stuff.
OfferUp is a popular app that helps you sell your items locally and fast. There’s also an option to use the website version and you can post pictures along with a description for your listing.
After posting your item, you’ll list a price and the area where you’re located. This way, your listing will show up when nearby shoppers search on the app. Interested buyers will message you and make offers for your item – hence the name OfferUp. It’s up to you to decide if you’re interested and willing to sell it for the price offered.
Recently, I listed a TV stand on OfferUp for $55 and a buyer asked me if they could buy it for $50. That seemed fair and I was eager to sell my item so everything went pretty smoothly.
Another great thing about this app is that buyers and sellers can list their profiles with ratings so you can see how credible they are. Either way, OfferUp is a great app to use to sell your stuff. My TV stand was my first sale and it didn’t matter that I was new to the app and didn’t have any ratings yet on my profile.
Letgo is another one of the best apps for selling your stuff.
It’s similar to OfferUp but you can also sell bigger items like your car, as well as list common services like lawn care and pet grooming.
To start, download the app and create your listing in minutes. Potential buyers can message you to ask questions about the item or arrange a pick up.
Like on OfferUp, you can have a profile page to show all the items you’re currently selling, what you’ve sold in the past, and how buyers rate doing business with you.
If you have a lot of clothes that you need to get rid of, download the Poshmark app.
Poshmark is a popular app for selling trendy men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. To be honest, Poshmark is known for helping sellers offload brand name clothing. Nonetheless, if you have gently used clothing or accessories that are in good condition, it’s worth trying this app out.
It’s not necessarily a local app so you can reach more people, but you’ll need to ship your items to buyers. When you make a sale, Poshmark creates your printable shipping label so you can send the item to the customer. They also take a fee of $2.95 when you make a sale under $15. For any sales over $15, you keep 80% of the profit and Poshmark takes 20%.
If you’re on Facebook, you might as well check out the Facebook Marketplace to help you sell your stuff.
You can list your item to sell locally and keep track of how many views it gets along with your messages. If someone is interested in buying the item and contacts you about it, this will show up in your messages or on the Messenger app.
You can arrange a local meetup to sell the item to the buyer. There’s even a new feature that allows buyers to pay you safely online. Otherwise, be sure to do a cash transaction, try to meet up in a public place, and bring a friend or family member with you to witness the transaction.
CPlus is an app that lets you shop on Craigslist and list items for sale from your phone. Maybe you’ve sold or bought items on Craigslist before, but this app makes it more convenient.
You’ll start by posting an ad for the item you wish to sell. Choose your city, add clear images, and include a description of the item. You can edit, review, and update your listing at any time. You can also manage multiple accounts from your phone. This is also a great app to use since you can also view classifieds, job ads, yard sales, vehicles for sales and so on.
As with other local selling apps, make sure buyers pay you in cash or securely via a payments app like Chime’s Pay Friends.
Take 10 Minutes
Everyone can carve out 10 minutes during their day. So, when it comes to selling your stuff online, don’t push it off until a later time.
Once you finish decluttering, commit to dedicating at least 10 minutes to taking images of your items and listing them on some of these apps. You’ll find that it’s a super easy way to make money fast.
Imagine what you can do with the extra cash. Are you ready to sell your stuff?
