The Chime Weekly Roundup: Kickstart Your Healthy Money Habits

Welcome to the Chime Weekly Roundup! Each week we bring you a roundup of the best money tips, tricks and hacks that will help you, and your friends, lead healthier financial lives.

With the new year in full swing, and tax season right around the corner, there’s no better time to check in on your financial well being. We invite you to take this time to check-in on your spending habits, reflect on missteps, and explore new strategies for navigating money and relationships.

1. What to say to your friend who’s known for spending too much, too often…

Take a breath and reflect. What is leading you to overspend each month, is it routine expenses or the way you view money? Do research and take time to become financially literate so you are better able to plan your budget and intervene with negative spending patterns.

2. What to say to the friend is always lending out money and never getting paid back…

Be kind and set expectations. Set up a repayment schedule, and utilize technology to help make reminders automated. Also, it’s important to be direct so you don’t set up the assumption that those you lend money to can get away with forgetting to pay you back.

3. What to say to your friend who’s New Year’s resolution is to develop healthy spending habits…

Have intention. Take time to write down the spending patterns that have affected you most financially. Then, tackle each challenge with intention. Having focus will allow you to develop strategies that work for you to overcome those obstacles.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s weekly roundup, and of course your weekly roundup bonus from being enrolled in our Automatic Savings program!
