Many of us are fortunate enough that we can afford to put food on the table every evening. However, not all Americans are so lucky. One in six Americans face hunger on a day-to-day basis. That amounts to almost 49 million Americans struggling to put food on the table.

Contrary to popular belief, this issue isn’t improving due to a recovering economy. In a recent report, the percentage of U.S. Households who lack access to enough food is actually higher now than it was just before the most recent recession.

As one of the most wealthy nations on the planet–with an improving economy–one would think that we would not have such a widespread hunger problem. Unfortunately, even as a first-world country, we face this third-world problem.

That’s why this month we’re highlighting Feeding America to raise awareness and support for this important issue. This nonprofit rescued 2.6 billion meals of good and safe food that would have otherwise landed in landfills. Last year alone, they redistributed more than 3 billion meals to people in need. By redistributing that food to those in need through their food banks, Feeding America is putting a dent in the hunger problem for many Americans.

For every dollar donated to Feeding America, eleven meals make it to hungry individuals. That’s big payoff for your donation dollars.

We invite our members to #ChimeIn for Hunger this month by supporting this important cause. When you do, we’ll give you $5.00 back when you donate $25.00 or more to Feeding America in October. By collectively coming together to fight hunger, we can all help make an impact on this important issue. One dollar–and eleven meals–at a time.
